Where Does Granite Come From?

Granite, mostly known for the stone used in common granite worktops, are igneous rocks formed by slowly cooling pockets of magma trapped beneath the earth’s surface. It can form to become a part of continental crust layers made up of igneous, sedimentary and metamorphic rocks which form the areas of shallow seabed close to the shore.
Granite is normally made up with different kind of rocks and other components, such as feldspar, quartz, amphibole and biotite; these can change the granite’s aesthetic and practical qualities, from how durable to absorbent the stone is. Black granite contains less feldspar and quartz to normal granite making this more durable and absorbent than other stones.
Polished granite has become a popular choice for kitchen worktops due to its aesthetic qualities and durability. The term “granite” for worktops and building is often used to igneous rocks with large crystals, even without the composition of granite rocks.
